Scheffler wins Collegiate Showcase
University of Texas senior Scottie Scheffler shot a 3-under-par 68 at The Riviera Country Club on Monday to win the 2018 Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase and earn an exemption into the 144-player field for this week’s Genesis Open.
“It’ll be awesome to be a part of this field and to be a part of the history of this tournament is going to be really special,” Scheffler said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
Thursday will mark Scheffler’s fifth PGA TOUR start and first since he finished as the top amateur in the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills, tying for 27th (1-under-par 287).
Scheffler, the No. 38 amateur in the world, tied for third in the 2017 NCAA Individual Championship. Scheffler was on the victorious United States team in the 46th Walker Cup this past September in Los Angeles. Scheffler earned a point over two matches.
University of Texas’ Spencer Soosman and Doug Ghim and Kentucky’s Lukas Euler finished T-2nd at 3-over-par 68 with Washington’s Carl Yuan and USC’s Justin Suh finishing T-5th at 4-over-par 68.
