Hollywood returns to Riviera for the Genesis Open
Since Riviera Country Club first hosted LA’s PGA TOUR golf tournament in 1929, the course has been a popular spot for Hollywood stars. From Riviera members like Walt Disney and Humphrey Bogart, to the more recent Adam Sandler and Larry David, Riviera Country Club has been a course where you can be sure to catch more than just the golf action.
The 2018 Genesis Open not only witnessed the return of Tiger Woods to the field in Los Angeles for the first time since 2006, but Riviera Country Club was a site for the stars throughout the tournament. From playing with the pros in the Official Genesis Open Pro-Am to sitting greenside at 18 to watch Bubba Watson capture his third title at the famed Riviera Country Club, many celebrities, professional athletes and special guests were out in full force.
Movie stars including Mark Wahlberg, Cedric the Entertainer and Rob Riggle took to the course at Riviera, playing alongside the PGA TOUR pros in the pro-ams during the early part of tournament week. These personalities not only brought their A-game on the course, but brought the fun off the course as well.
From hall of fame basketball stars to NFL legends, many professional athletes also came out to Riviera to share the day with PGA TOUR players and create memories on course. James Worthy and Dr. J played in the Official Genesis Open Pro-Am, while Kyle Lowry walked inside the ropes watching Tiger Woods play his round on Thursday. Other athletes included 2010 Super Bowl champion Reggie Bush, LA Rams teammates Jared Goff and Andrew Whitworth, Detroit Lions receiver Golden Tate, boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, professional surfer Josh Kerr and volleyball Olympian Sean Rosenthal.
Other notable stars in attendance include women’s long drive champion Troy Mullins, Golf Digest’s Ashley Mayo, 2015 Miss America Kira Kazantsev, TV personality Whitney Port, and ABC’s The Bachelor host Chris Harrison, Bachelor contestant Robby Hayes. Making a huge splash on social media was artist and musician Niall Horan, who tweeted his excitement watching Tiger Woods return to the Genesis Open.
